Bracken Lane’s Founding

Bracken Lane’s unofficial formation dates back to 2017 when Chad Riddle was hired by Umpqua Bank to build and lead a Merger and Acquisition group (“M&A”). Chad’s experience of working nearly 20 years for investment banks (tucked inside large commercial banks) was an ideal background for the new Umpqua M&A group strategy. Shortly after the group was started, Chad attended an Umpqua sponsored business plan competition for graduate students across the Pacific Northwest. He met Brad Stricklin as Brad was on the winning team from Oregon State. Brad joined the team and history was made! In 2022, as Columbia Bank was acquiring Umpqua Bank, Chad and Brad were provided the opportunity to take the clients and investment banking business from Umpqua and start Bracken Lane Partners.

Chad Riddle

I started in the investment banking business in 1998. Nearly all of my career has been working within the investment banking groups of large banks (Wells Fargo, Key Bank, Umpqua Bank.) I have always been an industry generalist, focusing on exceptional companies with strong business models where our process strategy and ideas can drive superior valuation outcomes for the owners.  A CEO of one of the banks I worked for was fond of saying “Bigger isn’t better….better is better.” That saying has always stuck with me over the years as I have had the privilege of working with some incredible companies (leaders in their fields) that were not large companies.

Home is in Portland, Oregon. I have been married for 25+ years and have three children in high school and college.

I began my professional life following the footsteps of my father and grandfather, working as a basketball coach at several universities before deciding to go back to school for my MBA. During my graduate program, I was part of a team that won an investment banking case competition, eventually starting my career in investment banking in 2018.  I get really excited about collaborating with clients to bring their "stories" to life and positioning their companies to achieve their desired goals. Working every day with business leaders, in the communities I call home, is something I take great pride in.

While home is Portland, in my down time, I enjoy skiing, rafting, surfing and hiking throughout the Northwest. Outside of Bracken Lane, I am an active member of the Big Brothers, Big Sisters program and am the Co-Chair of the ACG Cup Northwest.
